About UNSW3+

UNSW moved to a new academic calendar in 2019 known as UNSW3+. It consists of three 10 week teaching terms (trimesters), and an optional 5-week summer term. The new calendar timetable starts with O-Week on 11-15 February 2019. Term 1 starts on 18 February 2019.

Impacts of UNSW3+

Enrolling

Under UNSW3+, most students will enrol annually.

Fees, benefits and scholarships

The new calendar will not affect fees. Scholarship payments will now follow the new term dates, but the value will not change. Centrelink payments will depend on the status of students, but the amount of support will not change.

Student visa holders

The new calendar has implications for student visa holders in meeting the conditions of their visa.

Internships

The UNSW3+ academic calendar gives students the opportunity to personalise and tailor their university experiences.

Exchange and Study Abroad

Exchange and Study Abroad programs are still available with the move to UNSW3+. There may be slight changes to requirements. However, most of UNSW’s university partners in the northern hemisphere have starting dates aligned to the new calendar. ‘Tailored’ terms and a new T2C teaching period has been created so that inbound Exchange and Study Abroad students can complete their required four courses.

Program leave

If you are a domestic student, you can still take program leave for up to one year of your enrolment in your program. Transitioning students who have already taken one semester of leave will be able to take an additional two terms of leave.
